Individual sessions

Most programs will be set up to be group sessions, but in some cases individual sessions maybe recommended.

GROUP SERVICES:

Traditionally, CE is carried out in group sessions. The size of the groups depends upon several factors. The group members encourage and support each other’s learning by sharing each other’s struggles and successes. The group programs are structured in a way to work on common, as well as individual, goals.

The group enables individuals to work on their social and emotional skills more than in an individual program and it strengthens the motivation to learn.

Motor skills are broken down into task series, which are carefully constructed to make the next complex task easier. Task series break down skills like dressing, sitting up, changing positions in bed, standing, walking, transferring, eating etc.

Suggestions are made toward implementing those practices and skills into the individual’s daily routine.

Children programs:

Parents and child groups (0-3 years):

This program is designed to teach the parents how to help their children develop through play. It shows them specific ways to help as well as how to reduced help in order to encouraged learning. It will give ideas how to develop a conductive upbringing in their home. It will be explored what the children can already do and what and how to work on to help them take the next step. It will also show how to create activity, motivation and confidence in their children.

Preschool groups(3-6 years)

In those groups the children are working on learning skills to get them ready for school. CE is going to look at the whole personality of the child and work on every aspect to remove barriers and enable them to lean. Areas that will be worked on will be physical, social, emotional, personal and cognitive development. It will be explored how the child can apply those skills learned in the group at home as well as at school. It will be discussed how the child will be able to move around as independent as possible as well as what adjustments need to be made to help the child learn. Everything will be taught though play.

School groups (7-12)

Age-appropriate play activities will be used to help the children to work towards aims that will reflect the need of the whole personality. Creative but consistent teaching will ensure to gain more skills in their physical, social, emotional, personal and cognitive development. At this age it is important to work towards ways to stay as mobile and independent as possible as their growing bodies will make it harder to stay active and receive help. Age appropriated cognitive skills will be taught to help the child’s ability to learn more successfully at school and life.

Teenage groups (13-17)

This age brings a lot of changes to the teenagers live. The body changes as well as new priorities need to be set for their emotional, social, personal well-being. Play activities will focus on the cognitive development as well as maintaining their motivation, but mostly the program is building upon their understanding and supports their problem solving of how to master successfully daily life activities. This program will help, as the teenagers grow into young adults, working on how to increase their confidence to live a full-filling and independent life.

Adult programs

Cerebral Palsy groups

The program is designed to maintain the skills they already have as well as working on increasing their skills. Usually as growing is usually complete at this age, huge changes in their bodies are not expected. However, learning is far then from concluded at this age. Learning skills and ways how to apply those into daily life will become more and more meaningful. The group will help giving support, sharing experience and motivate to work further on improving oneself.

Stroke group

Conductive Education aims to help re-learning skills lost as the result of a stroke as well as exploring how to increase abilities. It does not matter how long ago the stroke occurred as CE builds on the principle that every human can learn despite their age or severity of disability.  A stoke can affect each person and their families very differently and groups are put together to work on common as well as individual skills in a supportive and positive learning environment. CE aims to enhance self-esteem, confidence and helps the individual to become more independent from equipment and people, by teaching ways to include the affected side rather then replacing it through expensive equipment.

MS group

MS effects everybody differently and the focus of teaching might change with progression of MS. In general it does not matter how severely MS affects the person in order to gain some benefits from CE. CE can help to gain more confidence, self-reliance and awareness as well as staying as independent as long as possible.

Due to the (mostly) progressive nature of MS, CE can help to maintain the level of skill for longer but also help increasing the level of skills. Therefore, the focus of the group will depend on the individual as well as the group aims. Areas that can be worked on are reflected by the whole personality and might include physical, social, emotional, personal and cognitive skills.

Parkinson’s Disease group

In this group individuals with Parkinsons’s Disease or parkinsonisms are taught different skills that will be relevant to their daily life. It is aimed to increase the level of function as well as maintaining it due to the progressive nature of Parkinsons’s Disease. Ways of dealing with the side-effects of the drugs as well as how to maintain function in “off”-periods are going to be explored and individualized solutions will be encouraged. A powerful tool in dealing with Parkinson’s Disease – rhythmical intention will be taught and learnt to apply in every day situation.
